Description
Numbers 3 and 4 Yew Tree Cottages are two cottages located on Main Street in Burythorpe. They date from the 17th century or early 18th century, with the eaves level raised and an extension added to the right in the 19th century. The early section is constructed of whitewashed rubble, while the 19th-century sections are made of whitewashed brick, topped with a pantile roof.
The cottages are two storeys high and have four first-floor windows. Number 4 features a boarded door flanked by casement windows, with a blocked doorway to the right, all having channelled lintels. Number 3 has a boarded door with a cambered brick arch, flanked by casement windows; the left window has a keyed channelled lintel, while the right window is beneath a brick relieving arch. There is a projecting former eaves course visible. On the first floor, both cottages have two-light Yorkshire sash windows, and there are end and ridge stacks.
Inside, there is evidence of a former steeply pitched roof visible in the left end first-floor room, along with original oak board doors featuring H-L hinges.
