Description
Great Edstone House is a house built in the late 18th century, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed of squared limestone and features a slate roof with rebuilt stone stacks. The layout includes a central staircase plan and is two rooms deep, later extended to the east.
On the street front, the entrance is located under a portico in the 20th-century extension to the left. The central feature is a two-storey round-headed staircase sash window with 'Gothick' pointed glazing bars, set within a semi-circular window head that has a keyblock. There are 16-pane sash windows on either side, each with heavy plain lintels.
The garden front has a two-storey, three-window layout. The central panelled door is topped with a rectangular fanlight and glazing bars. The upper and lower windows to the left and right are 16-pane sashes, while the upper centre window is a 12-pane sash, all featuring plain lintels. There is one end stack on the shallow-pitched hipped roof.
Inside, there is an 18th-century open-well staircase with turned balusters, along with 18th-century panelling and shutters on the garden front windows.
