Description
Mount Pleasant Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse, originally with a central staircase plan and one room deep, which was later extended to incorporate a cottage on its left side. A two-storey rear outshut has also been added. The farmhouse is built of coursed rubble limestone with a pantile roof, and has brick stacks. The front elevation is two storeys high with a three-window arrangement. A 20th century panelled double door is located to the right of the centre, sheltered by a doorcase featuring an open, dentilled pediment on fluted pilasters, a frieze decorated with masks, and a fanlight with radial glazing. There are 16-pane sash windows throughout; one ground floor window sits to the right of the door, and three to the left. The first floor also has three windows. All windows have heavy milled lintels. The farmhouse has coped gables and shaped kneelers. There are three stacks, one at each end and one to the left of the centre. The interior retains a 19th century staircase alongside the original main staircase. There are 18th century raised and fielded panel doors with bolection moulding and original fittings throughout the ground floor rooms. Wall cupboards with panelled doors are present in both rooms on the left side, and the end room has an additional fitted panelled cupboard incorporating carved harness pegs and racks. Original 18th century shutters and panelling are found on the ground floor front windows.
