Description
54 to 60 North Street is a row of small houses dating from the early to mid 19th century. Number 54 is two storeys tall, while the others are three storeys, with number 60 being the tallest. The houses are constructed of red brick and feature eaves bands and low gable end slate roofs. Number 54 has one window, while the others have two windows each, with recessed sashes, some of which are blind, and the glazing bars are intact. Number 54 also has a laid 19th-century shop window with four thin mullioned lights and a transom in a pilaster frame, along with a panelled and glazed door and a rectangular fanlight, all framed by pilasters. Shaped brackets flank the frieze to the cornice above. Numbers 56 and 58 have paired doors in the centre, each with two-pane fanlights set in a common pilaster doorcase with an entablature. Number 60 features an original shop front on the ground floor, with four six-pane windows in a pilaster frame, a panelled and glazed door to the left, a two-pane fanlight, and pilasters flanking the entrance with an entablature above. The row is listed for its group value.
