Description
Israel Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble stone with painted stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The property follows a central staircase plan and is two storeys high with a double-fronted design. The entrance is located to the right of centre and features a plain surround and a plank door. There are two ground-floor and two upper-floor windows on the front, all with plain surrounds. The ground-floor windows are 19th-century 16-pane sashes, while the upper-floor windows are similar but 20th-century sashes. Modillions are present at the eaves. The right-hand gable and left-hand ridge have stacks.
The rear of the farmhouse has two storeys and three bays. The entrance is to the left of centre, with a chamfered surround and a plank door. A left-hand ground-floor window is a 2-light double chamfered mullioned window with sashes and glazing bars. A right-hand ground-floor window is a 3-light double chamfered mullioned window with fixed lights. Upper-floor windows on the rear have 19th-century surrounds and sashes. A central, round-headed staircase window has a 20-pane fixed light. Eaves modillions are also present.
Inside, a dog-leg open string staircase has stick balusters and a ramped handrail. Six-panel doors are used throughout. The roof is 19th century, incorporating re-used late 17th or 18th century principals.
