Description
Higher Wham is a former farmhouse that has been converted into an outbuilding. It dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made around 1950. The building is constructed from slobbered rubble brought to course, with stone dressings and a slate roof. It has a two-cell plan and stands two storeys tall, featuring a double fronted design.
The central entrance has a chamfered surround and a flat arched lintel, leading to a plank door. On the ground floor, there are two windows with 17th-century chamfered surrounds, which were originally two-light mullioned windows, although the mullions are now missing. The left-hand window has a six-pane fixed light, while the right-hand window features six-pane sashes.
On the upper floor, there is a similar window on the right that has been blocked, and the left-hand window has been partly blocked and enlarged at the top to create a hayloft entrance, which also has a plank door. A re-used datestone inscribed with the year 1666 can be found on the jamb at the rear of the barn to the left.
