Description
Famars is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or earlier, with later alterations. It is constructed of narrow local red brick, which has been whitewashed on the front, and features timber arcade plates. The cottage has a steeply pitched swept pantile roof with raised verges and later end and ridge chimneys. There are 20th-century dormers with Yorkshire sashes. The building is one storey plus an attic and consists of two bays. The windows are Yorkshire sashes fitted with late 18th to early 19th century panelled shutters. A central 20th-century door is framed by a wooden architrave. The eaves are stepped and dentilled. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace. The arcade plates suggest that the cottage was originally part of an earlier timber-framed house that was aisled on both sides, and the brickwork indicates that Famars and the adjoining house were once a single dwelling.
