Description
The Church of St Nicholas is a Grade II* listed building located on Main Street in Stillington. It dates from the late 15th century but has been extensively restored and rebuilt in the 1840s. The church is constructed of ashlar stone and features a Welsh slate roof with stone coping.
The structure includes a two-stage west tower and a four-bay aisled nave, along with a 19th-century south porch and a two-bay chancel. The tower is battlemented and has a two-centred, two-light bell stage. The nave and chancel are adorned with straight-headed, two-light windows that feature panel tracery, most of which are 19th-century restorations. The east window is a prominent five-light, two-centred design.
Inside, the nave arcade consists of acutely pointed double-chamfered arches that rest on octagonal piers, and there is a two-centred chancel arch. The interior also includes 19th-century box pews.
