Description

Rectory Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations, including a 19th-century raising of the roof pitch. It is constructed from magnesian limestone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with an additional range at the rear.

The original entrance, located at the right gable end, is now blocked and has a chamfered surround with a shallow-arched heavy lintel. A central entrance has been inserted into what was previously a window opening; this features a plank door with an overlight, all under a weathered cavetto-moulded hood. The farmhouse has 3-light casement windows throughout, except for a single-light window above the door. The ground floor windows are set under cavetto-moulded hoods, all within 17th-century double-chamfered surrounds. The left window on the first floor retains only the remains of its double-chamfered surround.

The end stacks project, with the right stack having a chamfered plinth. The right return of the building includes a ground-floor 2-light mullion and transom window within a weathered double-chamfered surround under a hoodmould, and a first-floor 2-light mullion window within a double-chamfered surround. There are remains of similar windows at the rear, which are now partly obscured by later constructions.
