Description

Went Farmhouse is a probable late 17th-century farmhouse, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of magnesian limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and has a pantile roof covered with stone slates to the eaves, along with stone copings and kneelers. The building follows a lobby-entry plan and originally comprised three bays, with outshuts to the rear. The main entrance features a six-panel door within a 20th-century brick porch. Most windows are 2-light casements within double-chamfered surrounds with 17th-century tooling; one window has a swept roof. The farmhouse has moulded kneelers and copings. A large rubble ridge stack with two diamond-set chimneys and a brick end stack to the left are prominent features. To the right gable end is a mullion window within a double-chamfered surround, also with a chamfered mullion. The interior is reportedly home to an original staircase, which is now boarded in. The North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study Group has documented the building in Report No 463.
