Description
The gate piers and wall at Womersley Park, likely built in the early and late 18th century, are constructed from magnesian limestone rubble and pinkish-brown brick, featuring ashlar dressings. The piers slightly project from the wall and are topped with a square ashlar frieze and cornice, which support obelisks. The main entryway has been infilled, with a now-blocked pedestrian entrance beneath a double segmental arch. There is an additional entrance at the west end, which consists of a six-fielded-panel door set within an elliptically-arched surround. The wall extends around the corner of Park Lane for about 30 metres and is capped with ashlar stones. Some parts of the wall contain blocked elliptically-arched openings that were originally used for a heating system. This structure is an important part of the village landscape.
