Description
The garden steps at York House were built in the late 17th century and connect the upper and middle terraces at the rear of the house. Made from finely dressed sandstone, the straight flight consists of 14 steps that align with the central axis of York House and a second similar set of steps located about 25 meters to the south. The staircase features two steps leading down to a broad landing, followed by six steps to a narrow landing, and then another six steps to complete the flight. The steps have moulded nosings, with the moulding extending around the returns of the lowest five steps. The rest of the staircase is bordered by very low, chamfered parapets.
