Description

No 2 The Green, formerly known as Morley's Cottage, is a cottage that was originally part of a cross-passage and domestic end of a longhouse. It likely dates from the early 17th century and has been raised and altered later, with changes made in the 20th century. The building is cruck-framed and encased in coursed rubble stone, topped with a pantile roof and rebuilt stacks.

It stands two storeys high with two irregular bays; the right bay is obscured by a separate building that projects forward, while the left has a half-bay with an entrance passage. The quoined doorway on the left features a renewed lintel and a 20th-century door. To the right, there is a two-light casement window with a painted timber lintel in an enlarged fire window, and further right is a three-light chamfered-mullion window. On the first floor, there is a two-light horizontal-sliding sash window with diamond leaded lights. A stack is located to the right of the door.

At the rear, the original cross-passage door has been blocked and replaced with a 20th-century window. Centrally, there is a square chamfered window marked "DAIRY". Inside, a 18th-century plank and batten door leads from the cross-passage into the house. Backing onto the cross-passage is a late 18th-century stone fireplace featuring a segmental arch cut in low relief from a corbelled-out monolith lintel. The joists throughout the ground floor are chamfered and stopped, laid flat, and in the left room, the spine beam is chamfered.
