Description
Wythe Syke Farmhouse and the attached barn are a farmhouse and barn built in the mid to late 18th century, with alterations and an extension from the 19th century. The structure is made of red brick laid in stretcher bond, featuring a sandstone plinth, quoins, and dressings, topped with a pantile roof and brick stacks. The farmhouse has a central entrance and is 1 ½ rooms deep, with a rear service wing added. It stands two storeys high and has three windows, while the barn to the left is 1 ½ storeys and has three bays. The front door is a 20th-century design with an overlight, and the window above the door is blocked. The remaining windows are 2-light, 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes, all with tripartite extended lintels and triple keyblocks. There are raised sill bands on both floors and a cavetto-moulded eaves cornice. The gables are coped with shaped kneelers, and there are end stacks. The barn features bays defined by buttresses with sandstone offsets, squared loft openings in the end bays, and a dentilled eaves course. The left gable of the barn is coped with a shaped kneeler, and the rear is buttressed like the front. Both the house and barn have a dentilled eaves course. At the time of the last survey, the house was in a dilapidated condition.
