Description

This barn, located approximately 250 metres south-west of Lawkland Hall, dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and 19th century. It is constructed of slobbered rubble that has been brought to course, with stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The barn features six bays. The waggon entrance in the third bay has a chamfered surround and a basket-arched head, with plank doors. There is a 2-light chamfered mullioned window in the second bay, and two 19th-century buttresses to the right of the entrance. An additional entrance is located in the fifth bay, and there are breathers at the ground floor. The sixth bay is an addition from 1761, which includes two entrances and a dated panel above the lintel inscribed "I IS" (for John Ingleby).

On the left-hand return, there are three entrances with chamfered surrounds, a 3-light double chamfered mullioned window, and a similar window in the gable, along with a 2-light window in the apex. Three slate dripmoulds are also present. Inside, the trusses feature a king-post on the collar, chamfered principals, and carpenter's marks. This barn is similar to the Bank Barn, and both are part of the Lawkland Hall estate.
