Description
Embsay Station's passenger building dates from the 1880s and features later 19th-century alterations for the London and Midland Railway. It is constructed of snecked sandstone with a slate roof. The building has a recessed three-bay center flanked by gabled cross wings. The central bays include a door and eight fixed lights, each with twelve panes. A canopy supported by two posts with chamfered braces extends over the entrance. Each cross wing has three-light imitation Venetian windows, with a round head on the tall central light and moulded lintels on the flanking lights, which include casements and fixed lights. Brackets support the gables, and there are tall stacks on the left-hand central and right-hand sides. To the left, a later 19th-century WC extension contains a repositioned cast-iron basin dated 1865, featuring a shell bowl supported on a scrolled console, along with a round-headed back plate that has bolection moulding and a date plaque.
