Description

The house is an early to mid-18th century farmhouse situated on the south side of Hathenshaw Lane in Denton. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and originally comprised three bays, with a rear projecting bay flanked by outshuts. Quoins are visible. The central entrance features a 20th-century board door in a plain surround, accessed via a simple open-gabled porch with a plain lintel and jambs. Flanking the entrance are three-light flat-fronted mullion windows, with the mullions slightly recessed. Similar windows are found on the first floor, flanking a two-light window. The roof features shaped kneelers and gable copings. Rebuilt stacks are situated at the rear, between the main house and the outshuts, in bays one and three. The rear elevation has a projecting bay flanked by three- and two-light recessed, chamfered mullion windows. On the right return, a 20th-century glazed door to the outshut is framed by chamfered quoined jambs and a large chamfered lintel cut to a flattened triangular head.
