Description
Elm House is a late 18th-century house with alterations and additions from the early 19th century. It was built for Thomas Other. The house is constructed of roughcast rubble with a stone slate roof, and has an irregular E-shaped plan. It is two storeys high and originally had three bays on the left and three bays on the right, though the two sections are of different builds. Rusticated quoins are present overall. The left-hand section features a four-pane sash window on the ground floor, a sash window with glazing bars above, a segmental bow with tripartite sash windows with glazing bars on both floors, a porch with Doric columns and a plain entablature with a blocking course, and a sash window with glazing bars on the first floor. There are stacks located between bays 1 and 2, and between bays 2 and 3. The right-hand section is taller and has four-pane sash windows. It has a hipped roof. A two-storey canted bay window has been added to the left return, featuring four-pane sash windows and a hipped roof. At the rear, there’s a service range that formerly included stables.
