Description
23 Eastgate is a building from the early to mid-19th century, featuring two storeys constructed of stone, with some parts rusticated and adorned with ashlar dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate, with coped gable ends and an ashlar eaves cornice. The façade includes three modern dormers and a band. To the left, there is a bay that is slightly set back, which has a shallow blank niche above a round-arched doorway. This doorway contains a door with four panels and a glazed fanlight. The rest of the building has three windows, each framed with moulded surrounds and topped with triple keystones, along with a band at the cills. The windows are hung sashes with glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two windows with shouldered surrounds that extend down to the plinth, featuring labels beneath the cills and a carved architrave with a rusticated stylized head and keystone. There is also a door with four carved panels in a round-arched doorway, which includes a carved head and fanlight, accessed by five steps. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 18 to 25 and 30 to 37 Eastgate.
