Description
Nos 10 and 11 Kirkgate are 17th-century buildings that were originally timber framed and featured jetties at both the first and second floor levels, along with an additional gabled attic storey, as shown in a drawing by J M W Turner from 1797. The buildings were refronted in the early 19th century, now displaying a colour-washed brick front and a hipped pantile roof. They rise to three storeys and consist of three bays. The second floor has Yorkshire casements with glazing bars, while the first floor features cased sashes with glazing bars. There are two early 19th-century shopfronts; one has moulded pilasters and the other has panelled pilasters with a segmental bow, both also with glazing bars. Access includes one door up two stone steps and another up three stone steps, with a passage entrance that has a semi-circular head.
