Description

The North Hills Drawbridge over the River Derwent is an 18th-century structure with later additions, including 20th-century iron girders that are not of special interest. The drawbridge features timber construction with five rows of piers running parallel to the bank. The main supports consist of six piers, with smaller piers in between, all topped with horizontal braces. Some of the piers are missing. Originally, the bridge had a double drawbridge at its center and a gallows feature. A photograph in the Derwent District Council's guidebook shows the bridge in its original, unaltered condition.
