Description
Garden Cottage is a house built around 1844 by Edward Blore for Reverend Joseph Donnington Jefferson. It features pinkish-orange brick with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan with a single-storey, two-bay range and a two-storey, single gabled bay range at the angle. It has a plinth and quoins. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed door set within a porch that has a Tudor arch, hoodmould, and quoined jambs. The porch is adorned with ashlar quoins, kneelers, coping, and a finial. To the left, there is a three-light mullion and transom window with quoined jambs and a hoodmould. The eaves feature a modillion cornice. On the right side, there is a canted bay with mullion and transom casement windows, and above it, a two-light mullion window in a double-chamfered surround with unequally-hung three-pane sashes and quoined jambs. The gable has ashlar kneelers, coping, and a finial, and there are pairs of diamond-shaped ridge stacks.
