Description
The coach houses, stables, and brewery at Thicket Priory were built between 1844 and 1847, with later additions that are not of special interest. Constructed from orange-red brick in English bond, they feature ashlar dressings and a grey slate roof, showcasing a Jacobethan style. The layout is quadrangular, with a central coach house flanked by stables on each end, and the fourth side occupied by the brewery and a gabled archway.
The entrance is through a Tudor arch with chamfered jambs and a double-chamfered head beneath a hoodmould. It has double plank doors with ornamental hinges, and there are buttresses with offsets on either side. The stables are two storeys high and consist of five bays. Each side has two stable entrances with plank doors and multi-paned overlights, along with a narrower entrance on the right range. The remaining openings are multi-paned casement windows, one of which is obscured by a later addition. The first floor features openings, some glazed and others filled with planks, with each center having a former pitching door that projects into a decorative gable. All openings are topped with flat arches made of gauged brick.
The coach houses are single storey and consist of seven bays, featuring five pairs of double plank doors, along with plank and part-glazed doors and casement windows. A square tower rises from the roof on the left side, with ashlar quoins. The brewery, which is square in plan and two storeys tall, has a single bay. Its entrance is located on the side and features a pointed plank doorway. There is a three-light mullion and transom window within a double-chamfered surround, complete with quoined jambs and a hoodmould above. The brewery has a modillion eaves cornice and a tent roof, and it is adjacent to Thicket Priory.
