Description
Nos 8 and 10 Queen Street is a house that now serves as a museum, dating from 1696 as indicated by a datestone. The building was raised and subdivided in the early 19th century. It features coursed, squared stone with brick upper courses laid in stretcher bond, all of which is whitewashed. The roof is made of pantiles, and the bases of the brick stacks are visible.
Originally, the structure had a 3-cell hearth-passage plan before being divided into two cottages. It is two stories tall with a three-window front. The original doorway, located to the right of the center, is beneath the datestone and is crudely carved with a coat of arms and inscribed with the year '1696'. To the left of the center is a later inserted door, which is located under a rectangular, divided fanlight. Adjacent to the original door on the left is a fire window with a blocked round head beneath a drip mould.
The ground floor features large-paned horizontal sliding sash windows with three lights, while the first floor has similar two-light windows. The original door and ground floor window to the right have thin timber lintels. The building also has stacks at the ends and to the right of the center.
