Description

Cleveland Lodge is a villa built in 1841, constructed of ashlar with a green slate roof and stone chimneys. The building stands two storeys high and features five bays. Access is provided by three steps leading to a six-panel door with a margined overlight, located in a central projecting porch supported by paired square columns. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, set within architraves, and there are panels below the ground floor windows. Architectural details include a plinth, a ground floor swell frieze and cornice, a first floor cill band, a modillioned eaves cornice, and a blocking course. The hipped roof is adorned with four corniced chimneys.

The garden front, which is two storeys and three bays wide, has similar windows and features a large, central one-storey bow with a Classical design, containing three replaced sash windows with glazing bars, curved in plan. The north return of the building includes a small bellcote and two tripartite windows in the third bay. To the east, there is a tower and a three-bay domestic wing that has a similar window style in plain, raised surrounds, along with two stepped-back one-bay extensions that have a canted inner angle corbelled out on the first floor. The rear elevation showcases a round-arched stair window and additional extensions in a similar architectural style.
