Description
This listing describes a pair of cottages, currently functioning as an antiques showroom and a workshop, located on the south side of High Street in Snainton. They date from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The cottages are built from coursed rubble sandstone, with the front whitewashed, and feature a pantile roof and brick stacks.
The structure is two stories high and has a four-bay front, with the gable end facing the street. There is a re-used earlier panelled door to the left of the center and a plank door to the right of the center. The ground floor has a two-light, 12-pane horizontal sliding sash window on the left and a large-pane replacement casement window on the right, with a smaller similar window on the first floor to the right. All openings have thin timber lintels, and there are end stacks.
On the left gable wall, there are two-light horizontal sliding sash windows with timber lintels. Inside, both cottages retain boxed stairs at the rear of the ground-floor room. The cottage on the right has a board spice cupboard door with H-L hinges, while the cottage on the left features doors with H-L and butterfly hinges.
