Description
The Golden Lion Public House and Old Fountain Stores is a shop and public house dating from the 18th century, with 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of whitewashed brick and features a plinth, a first-floor band, and a wooden eaves cornice. The roof is covered with renewed pantiles, and the end and ridge chimneys have been rebuilt. The building has two storeys. The shop, located to the north, consists of two bays and has a 19th-century wooden shopfront with pilasters, large acanthus brackets, and a cornice, along with a central entrance. The public house section has three bays, with a central entrance that includes a 20th-century panelled door and an oblong fanlight set within an architrave. The first floor features late 19th-century sash windows throughout. There is also a dilapidated rear wing that dates from the 18th century. At the time of the resurvey, the shop was disused.
