Description

Oak House is a farmhouse and cottage that was recently converted back into a single dwelling. It dates from the late 16th to early 17th century and features an exposed timber frame across four bays, with the end bays rendered. The south gable end is made of brick, and there are 20th-century brick extensions at the rear. The building has a high-pitched, swept pantile roof that extends continuously over a rear outshut. A rebuilt brick stack is positioned above the current entrance.

The house is two storeys tall and previously had a rear outshut and likely end aisles. There are four Yorkshire sash windows on each floor, some of which date from around 1980, along with one small additional window on the first floor. The exterior showcases close studding, a ground sill on a plinth, a middle rail, and arch braces. The entrance is located in the second exposed bay of the frame on the north side, featuring a 20th-century door beneath an elliptical hood.

Inside, there is considerable exposed framing, including deep chamfered ceiling beams with large tongued stops. A stout chamfered beam is present above the fireplace in the room to the right of the entrance. The rear section above the former staircase outshut features stout jowled posts and a wall plate. On the first floor, there are wall plates, jowled posts, tie beams, and a stud partition. The roof structure includes stout queen struts with one level of purlins and arch-braced tie beams.
