Description

The Town Well, built in 1897, is located on the west side of Main Street in Helperby. It is constructed of sandstone and features a leaded ogee dome topped with a lion finial. The well is supported by octagonal Tuscan columns on high pedestals, which hold up a dentilled cornice. It includes a brass head water spout and a stone basin. The structure is inscribed with the following: "1837 VR 1897. To commemorate 60 years of the reign of Queen Victoria. This artesian well and building were given to the inhabitants of Helperby by James Coates. 30th June 1897. God Save the Queen."
