Description
No 8 and 10 Market Place are a pair of houses that have been converted into shops. They were built in the late 18th century and have some alterations from the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of brown and cream brick in Flemish bond and feature a Westmorland slate roof. They rise to three tall storeys and have four windows on the first floor.
No 8 has a half-glazed panelled door with a 19th-century shop window consisting of three arched lights to the right. No 10 features double doors and a half-glazed shop window with three arched lights, which has been partly altered in the mid-20th century. Both buildings have 2-pane sash windows set in flush wood architraves, with projecting sills and wedge lintels on the first and second floors. Additional details include wooden gutter brackets, ashlar gable coping, and a brick stack on the right side. The right return has a lead rainwater head and downpipe.
