Description

This is an early to mid-18th century house located on High Street in Gilling with Hartforth. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone with a pantile roof, featuring stone slates at the eaves. It is three storeys high and has four windows on the first floor. A 20th-century part-glazed door is set within a raised, quoined surround in the third bay, and a metal garage door replaces a window in the fourth bay. Ground-floor windows consist of 16-pane sashes with projecting sills and deep lintels. The first-floor windows are similarly 16-pane sashes. The second floor windows in the first and second bays, and the fourth bay, are 8-pane sashes. Quoins are visible on the upper part of the right-hand corner. The building has shaped kneelers, an ashlar coping, and a brick stack at the right end. The second floor of the first two bays appears to be a later addition.
