Description
Newsham Grange is a farmhouse built in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features a Westmorland slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan with a small projecting staircase wing at the center of the rear. It stands two storeys high and has four bays. The corners of the structure are marked by quoins.
In the third bay, there is a 20th-century six-panel door beneath a three-pane overlight, all set within an ashlar portico supported by Roman Doric half columns. The portico also has a plain frieze and a pediment. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, featuring ashlar projecting sills and deep lintels. Corniced stacks are located at both ends of the building and between the first and second bays.
At the rear, there is a round-arched landing window in the gabled wing. Inside, the doors and door linings consist of six reeded panels with reeded architraves that have corner roundels. The front rooms display reeded margins on the ceilings and beams. A dogleg staircase features bracketed strings and stick balusters.
