Description

Spa Villa is a spa house that has been converted into a private residence, built around 1835, likely by architect Ignatius Bonomi. The building is constructed from limestone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. It has a spinal range with cross wings at either end and stands two storeys tall. The façade includes four first-floor windows, with a gabled central bay that slightly projects forward, and gabled cross wings that also break forward.

The central entrance features French doors, with a single-light casement window to the left. The left cross wing has a canted bay, while the right cross wing has French doors beneath an original veranda canopy. On the first floor, there are 2-light and single-light casement windows in the spinal range, as well as 2-light casements in the cross wings. Decorative pendants adorn the gable ends, and ridge stacks are present. An early engraving owned by the current owner indicates that the house remains largely unaltered, except for the removal of the bath house on the right end. Original sketches from 1835, held by the Worsley family, support the attribution of the design to Bonomi.
