Description
The Magazine Building at Cononley Lead Mine is a structure dating from around 1842. It is made of coursed rubble stone and features a corrugated iron roof. The building is single storey and square in shape, with large quoins. Most of the walls are blank, except for the east gable wall, which has a plank door in a timber frame on the left and a square opening on the right. While the specific purpose of this building is not known, it is believed to have served as a powder store due to its isolated location from the other buildings. This building is part of a group of lead mine structures at Cononley that were constructed by the agents of the Duke of Devonshire between 1842 and 1847.
