Description

Nos 36 and 38 Market Place are a pair of houses built in the mid-18th century, likely designed by Matthew Ward according to Swinton estate records. The buildings are constructed of stone and rendered, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. They rise three storeys and feature two bays. The central arched doorway has a plain surround and is set on a plinth with a double keystone, voussoirs, and imposts. On either side of the doorway are sash windows. The first floor has two four-pane sashes, while the second floor has two two-pane side-sliding sashes. All windows have plain surrounds, with the ground and first floor windows featuring projecting stone sills. There is an end stack to the left.
