Description

Solway Cottage is a late 18th-century cottage, with alterations and additions from the early to mid-19th century. Built of red-brown and pale pinkish-brown local brick, it has a pantile roof with rendered verges and end stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and comprises three bays, with a central projection. A set of two steps leads to a central six-panel door, which is topped by an oblong fanlight with glazing bars. Flanking the door are reeded pilasters supporting a plain entablature and cornice. Sixteen-pane sashes are set within flush wood architraves, all under flat, gauged brick arches. The central bay has no windows. Stepped eaves are visible. A single-storey wing attached to the right is not considered to be of particular architectural interest.
