Description
The York County Savings Bank, dated 1851, is a two-storey building constructed in ashlar. It features a blocking course and a dentil cornice, with a label stating 'Savings Bank AD 1851.' The facade includes seven windows with rounded arches, console keystones, and pilastered jambs, as well as swags positioned between the windows. The right-hand window is set in a shouldered architrave above a carriage archway, which is slightly set back from the main structure. On the ground floor, there are four windows with segmental carved heads, along with two doors that also have carved heads. Below the windows, there are panels with cill brackets, and the building has a rusticated ground floor. This bank is part of a group of listed buildings that includes properties on Frenchgate and in the Market Place, specifically Nos 2 to 10 (even) and Swale House, as well as Nos 59A, 60, and 61 Market Place.
