Description

This is a mid-18th century building of three storeys, originally comprising one building now divided into three separate properties at Nos 8, 10A and 10B Frenchgate. It is constructed in coursed stone, with chamfered quoins and a parapet. No 10 has a shaped plinth. The windows and doors have moulded stone frames, with glazing bars to the windows of No 8. The doors are six-fielded panelled. The side elevation is rough-rendered. No 8 features a fanlight with three panes, while No 10 has a blind fanlight with painted glazing bars. Originally, the building served as the York Country Savings Bank, and it forms a group with Nos 4 to 10 (even) and Swale House.
