Description

Blacksmith's Cottage and the attached outbuilding are two houses from the early 19th century, constructed in two phases. They are built of coursed squared stone, with an interlocking tile roof on the taller house and pantiles on the lower house. The taller house is two storeys high and has two bays, while the lower house, now an outbuilding, is also two storeys and has two bays.

The taller house, known as Blacksmith's Cottage, features a blocked door on the left and a board door to the right of the center, both with timber lintels. Each bay has a two-light eight-pane side-sliding sash window on both floors, with timber lintels, except for the ground floor right window which lacks a lintel. There are brick stacks located at the center of the ridge and at the right end. The lower house, now an outbuilding, has a board door flanked by two-light windows on each floor, although its gable stack has been removed.

At the rear, the taller house is made of snecked stone and has a narrow central board door with an outshut to the left. The lower house is constructed of large herringbone-tooled stones.

Inside the right room of the taller house, there is a massive stone fireplace with an iron range, a large chamfered cross-beam, and a board door leading into a rear outshut pantry. The lower house contains a stone fireplace with remnants of a grate on the left wall. The buildings are included for their group value.
