Description

The Old Blacksmith’s Cottage is a cottage, likely dating from the 16th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of timber framing and rubblestone, which has been rendered, and has a modern pantile roof. The cottage is one storey high and comprises two bays. A half-glazed door is positioned to the left of two four-pane sash windows with stone sills. There is an outshut to the left of the door. A ridge stack is present. The interior features timber framing, including two wall posts in the left gable wall with braces, and an aisle post, demonstrating the building’s original form as an aisled hall. A large inglenook fireplace is also present. This is an uncommon, albeit fragmentary, example in the area of a once more prevalent building type.
