Description

Field Head is a house, likely dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of roughcast stone with a slate roof. The house is arranged around a central entrance plan, with four bays, the fourth bay set back and of lower height. The windows have plaster surrounds; the window above the entrance is particularly noteworthy, featuring a key block and small-paned, top-hung casements. The entrance to the second bay has ovolo-moulded reveals, flat pilasters, a frieze inscribed with "FIELD HEAD", and a consoled pediment, over a glazed door with overlight. Gable-end stacks are present. The rear of the house features a lean-to outshut to the first bay. The 2nd and 4th bays have large, single-chamfered-mullioned windows. Ground-floor windows in these bays have small-paned fixed glazing with opening lights and thick ovolo-moulded glazing bars; the first-floor windows are sashes and casements. The third bay has a stair window, with glazing matching the ground floor. Internally, a staircase features a Tuscan newel and baluster design, with three balusters to each tread and a ramped handrail.
