Description
The Pheasantries is a schoolhouse and classroom extension, now serving as an estate house for the Musgrave estate. It was likely built in the mid-18th century, with significant alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building features red sandstone rubble walls, a string course, and V-jointed quoins. Its roof is made of graduated greenslate, with coped gables and kneelers, and it has banded red sandstone chimney stacks topped with stone caps.
The structure is 2 and a half storeys tall, consisting of three bays, with a lower right two-bay extension. A prominent central Tudor-style gabled stone porch with shaped bargeboards projects from the front. The windows are stone-mullioned, with configurations of 2, 3, and 4 lights, and there are 19th-century gabled dormers. The extension features gable bargeboards, and the Musgrave coat-of-arms is displayed on the return wall, along with a truncated bellcote. At the rear, there is a stone porch and windows with chamfered surrounds.
