Description

The walls and gateways in front of The Court Yard at Edenhall were likely constructed in 1841 by Sir Robert Smirke as part of the Coach-house group. They are made of red sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. There are three regularly spaced gateways, each featuring squared rusticated piers topped with pyramidal caps, providing access to the Coach-house and associated buildings. The gateways are connected by high walls with pilasters, and each gateway has serpentine curved walls with piers that are surmounted by ball finials. The wall that extends beyond the end piers at each end is not of interest.
