Description
The Limes and Lilac Cottage is a house and former stables, now divided into two dwellings, dating from the early 18th century with 20th-century alterations and additions. The building features red sandstone rubble walls beneath a graduated red sandstone slate roof, which has rebuilt red sandstone chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with the right side being a four-bay former stable under a common roof. There is a 20th-century extension on the right side.
An off-centre 20th-century door is set in an 18th-century chamfered stone surround. The building has sash windows in original chamfered surrounds, including a three-light flat stone-mullioned window and a right fire window to the right of the door. The former stables have a blocked 18th-century doorway at the junction with the house and a blocked loft doorway. The sash windows in the stables, some with glazing bars, are set in 20th-century red sandstone surrounds. Lilac Cottage occupies the right two bays of the stables, while the 20th-century right extension is not of significant interest.
