Description
The garden wall to the south and west of Elliscale Farmhouse, including an attached farm building at the southwest, dates from the 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble limestone, while the farm building features a slate roof. The wall encloses the garden to the south of Elliscale Farmhouse and extends west to connect with a two-storey, three-bay farm building. From the north-west corner of this building, the wall continues northwards as a high retaining wall, which then returns eastwards to end near the rear-left corner of the house. This final section of the wall includes six bee-boles facing south. The wall has gate piers opposite the house door, and a short section to the west of the house has been demolished. It features rough slab copings, and the retaining wall section is approximately 4 meters high with slate throughs. The bee-boles are divided by four brick partitions and one of limestone, with a slate projection above. The farm building has large quoins and includes doorways for a loose box and stable on the east side. The hayloft is accessed from the farm drive through double doors in the south gable, which were previously covered by a slated canopy. Inside, there are two principal-rafter trusses. This structure is included for its group value.
