Description

The Cockpit in the field to the north of the village is a mid-19th century structure built for the Huddleston family. It is one of two cockpits that were part of a group of buildings designed as follies. This cockpit is believed to have been used for illegal cock fights. It features drystone construction with battered walls and a stone vault, and is circular in plan, approximately 10 feet high. The low entrance, which has a semicircular head, faces north and overlooks another cockpit that is listed separately.
