Description

The Cockpit in the field to the north of the village is a Grade II listed structure built in the mid-19th century for the Huddleston family. It is one of two cockpits constructed as part of a group of buildings designed as follies. It is believed to have been used for illegal cockfights. The cockpit is made of drystone construction and features a stone vault. It has a circular plan and a conical appearance, standing approximately 10 feet high. The low entrance faces north, and there is a small circular opening on the south side, along with a circular opening at the apex of the vault.
