Description
Birk Hag Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from 1666, as indicated by a date found on a spice cupboard, along with the initials I. & C.E. The building has seen later additions and alterations. It is constructed of wet-dashed rubble and features graduated slate roofs, with gabled dormers on the lower wing and rendered, tapered, cylindrical end chimneys. The farmhouse has two storeys and an L-shaped plan.
On the west elevation, the low wing has a plank door situated between two casement windows on the left, with a recessed 19th-century plank door in a porch on the right. The west return of the two-storey block, which dates back to 1666, has a casement window on the ground floor and another in the attic. An original wood-studded plank door on the east return leads up a spiral staircase to the first floor and attic. Inside, the farmhouse retains original doors and chamfered beams, along with an inglenook fireplace that features a chamfered fire-beam.
