Description

Aynam Lodge and Aynacote, also known as Nos 1 and 2, is a house built in 1824, now subdivided and partly used as offices. The design is attributed to the Webster firm. The building features tooled ashlar stone on a plinth with corner pilasters, a first-floor sill, and eaves bands. It has a moulded, cast-iron gutter supported by dentils and graduated slate roofs with projecting eaves. The rear elevation facing Bridge Lane includes two gabled dormers and stone mid and end chimneys. The structure is symmetrical, comprising a two-storey, three-bay central block with single-storey, single-bay wings set back on either side, which project to the rear.

The main elevation, facing the river, has a panelled door within a corniced surround flanked by panelled pilasters, with sash windows on either side and three above. Each wing features a semicircular-headed window in a recessed surround. On the Bridge Lane elevation, there is a panelled door under a verandah that includes a shallow, single-storey extension, with a fixed, semicircular-headed stair window above. The central block returns feature lunettes, and all windows have glazing bars.

Inside, there is a curved staircase with turned balusters, and the panelled doors are set in reeded doorcases with pointed extensions at the top of the jambs.
