Description

Hall Farm is a house, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, with an adjoining cottage. The house is built of coursed rubble, with a wet-dashed finish and a rough plinth to the rear. It has a graduated slate roof with projecting eaves, and stone chimneys in the middle and at the ends. The cottage adjoins the north end of the house and has brick end chimneys to its own roof.

The house has a central three-bay block with a panelled front door. There are two windows to each floor, a sash window to the first floor on the left, and two-light mullioned windows elsewhere. Two similar stair windows and three sashes are present at the end of a projecting wing. The rear of the house has a central plank door and four sashes to each floor, irregularly spaced. All windows have stone surrounds, and the sashes have glazing bars.

Inside, a ground floor room in the wing has fully-panelled walls and retains a moulded and corniced fireplace, with an overmantel that is likely original, although some of the panelling is believed to be re-used. The dog-leg staircase has turned balusters on a closed string, square newels, and a moulded handrail.

The cottage, set at a right angle to the house, has a gabled porch. It has three windows to each floor; a two-light mullioned window to the first floor on the right, and 20th-century insertions on the ground floor. The east end of the cottage has a part-glazed door under steps leading to the first floor and two small, unglazed openings in the gable. The west end has a 20th-century ground floor casement and two sashes with glazing bars above.
